Leandro Trossard is breathing down his neck and seeking a League One start for the club after scoring from the bench at the weekend. Martinelli hasn’t scored in his last seven matches and the opposition often doubles him down.
City may allow Martinelli more room on Wednesday because of how he has been set up. So Arteta may keep the Brazilian in his starting line-up despite the temptation to throw Trossard.
Finally, Arteta needs Eddie Nketiah to have more of an impact. Point scored four goals in the league since coming on for the injured Gabriel Jesus.
He was good at times but found it difficult against Brentford’s back three. The role of a striker in Arteta’s team is hugely important, and until Jesus is fully fit, Nketiah will have to step up and fill his boots.
