Mark Webber has refused to rule out the possibility of Fernando Alonso staying in Formula 1 beyond his current contract.
Alonso initially retired in 2018 but returned to the sport in 2020, showing that he still had a lot to offer during his two years with Albin.
The Spaniard then joined Aston Martin earlier this year on a multi-year deal, although Webber stressed Alonso may not leave the sport once the contract expires.
He told Motorsport.com’s Spanish edition: “I think when you get older we all mature in different ways, and have different priorities in our lives. He’s been in this field for 20 years. Naturally, it’s different than when he arrived.
“It’s obvious, but the instinct and the driver, it’s all still there. I think the traits are there, everything that distinguishes him is still there, he’s competitive, he wants to fight people, in a resolute and rewarding way, and that will never leave Fernando. He of course has the chance to stay longer than Those two years. Never rule out Fernando running until he’s 44.”
