The Silver Arrows are having a “serious problem” with their new car on the eve of the 2023 season, according to Guido van der Garde.
The former F1 star has claimed the eight-time Constructors’ Championship winners were struggling after a tough test.
He said: “Mercedes didn’t really do that. They have a serious problem.”
The team has publicly admitted that they are behind their main rivals, with Russell admitting that they are unlikely to fight for victory at the Bahrain Grand Prix.
Hamilton added: “We have a few things that we need to work on, and it’s still not perfect and we still can’t match the Red Bulls, or Ferrari, currently.
“Who knows where we’ll be next week, we’ll just try to stay positive.”
