There were more than a few people who were concerned about famed veteran Gabriel Rosado winning this weekend against Gilberto Ramirez at California State University Long Beach. Although the Rosado is exciting to see in action, it has accumulated a lot over the years. It simply wasn’t fair for pundits to see Ramirez, whose only loss came at the hands of a gloved Dimitri Bivol, would be the man Rosado would face. After all, Rosado has lost his last three matches decisively. He was also moving up to the light heavyweight division to face Ramirez on Saturday.

It should come as no surprise, then, that some fans are very happy to know that the fight has now been cancelled. Ramirez appeared to be overweight on Friday – adding more weight if reports are to be believed – and the fight had to be called off at a later date. The match, which was supposed to be broadcast live on DAZN, was replaced by Joseph Diaz Jr. – Mercito Gesta as the main event of tomorrow night. Needless to say, DAZN will be broadcasting the Diaz-Gesta fight live.
“No excuses,” Ramirez said via social media. “I have never lost weight in 45 pro fights. This is the first and last time. I have always prided myself on being a pro, but today wasn’t my best moment. On this note, I would like to apologize to all my fans, supporters, Golden Boy Promotions, and DAZN for this unfortunate event “I never gave up trying to gain weight, cutting until the last minute, but I just couldn’t lose enough to achieve the contracted weight. I am embarrassed and upset by my actions and I promise this will not happen again. I will make the right adjustments and will be back soon.”
