The group is back together in Marvel’s new trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which aired during Super Bowl Sunday. But the Guardians’ reunion with Gamora, played by Zoe Saldaña, is far from sentimental.
This Super Bowl trailer marks the first time Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord is reunited with his ex-wife Gamora, who was killed by her father Thanos during Avengers: Infinity War. An alternate Gamora, without Star-Lord’s memory, returns in “Avengers: Endgame”. Now, Star-Lord must attempt to jog this new Gamora Memory as the Guardians embark on one final mission against Chukwudi Iwuji’s High Evolutionary villain.
The first official trailer was revealed in December 2022, which shows the Guardians on a perilous mission “one last time,” Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper) definitively confirms to Star-Lord. From being attacked by rocks on an alien planet to encountering a tentacled monster, the group travels the galaxy in their quest to save the universe.
Returning cast members include Pratt, Saldana and Cooper alongside Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, Vin Diesel as Groot, Pom Klementieff as Mantis, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Sean Gunn as Kraglin, Sylvester Stallone as Stakar Ogurd, and Elizabeth Debicki as Ayesha. Newcomers to the franchise consist of Will Poulter as Adam Warlock, Iwoji as High Evolutionary, and Maria Bakalova as Cosmo the Speeddog, who was introduced in the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special.
James Gunn, director of all three films in the Guardians of the Galaxy saga, has been tapped to helm DC Studios for Warner Bros. Discovery in October. Coinciding with the start of his new position as co-president and co-CEO, Gunn is overseeing post-production on the latest “Guardians,” which he asserts will mark the beloved group’s last standalone feature of intergalactic heroes.
“That’s the end of that story. I’m sorry. Some stories have an end. That doesn’t mean everyone dies,” Jean confirmed at the 2022 San Diego Comic-Con.
Bautista later visited “The Tonight Show” on the January 31 episode, where he confirmed that the upcoming third installment would definitely be his last: “With Drax, I just finished in the perfect way. And I’ll never sign up for another job like Drax just for a paycheck. I’m going to tarnish that.” [perfect ending]And I won’t do that.”
