Don't Show Again Yes, I would!

PGA Tour 2023, golf results, Waste Management Phoenix Open, prize money, win Scottie Scheffler, world ranking, No. 1, Jason Day

Scotty Scheffler is world No. 1 once again, defending his crown at the WM Phoenix Open to take back the No. 1 spot from Rory McIlroy.

The 26-year-old edged out Canada’s Nick Taylor in Monday’s shootout (AEDT), with a medical eagle in 13th and a par-hole save in the 16th proving to be the deciding shots.

Scheffler missed the 16th and had a long putt, but drained 15 feet to put pressure on Taylor. Taylor then pushed his own attempt at a par-to-all save – but sealed the score.

Scheffler then bowled another birdie on the 17th to make sure of the win, finishing at minus 19 for a two-shot win.

He now surpasses McIlroy as the best male player in the world, while taking home a top prize of A$5,210,000 from the event’s A$29 million purse.

Jason Day also gained some major momentum in the event, earning his first top-five since the Farmers Insurance Open kicked off in January 2022.

He posted a 12-under course that included three consecutive birdies to start the final over.

“You have to love where this guy is going now, he looks solid,” said Trevor Immelman in his caption.

Ian Baker-Finch added, “Yeah, it’s definitely going to be one of Trevor’s trends I think. He’s taking it to that old No. 1 level.”

However, the highlight of the day came back to Rickie Fowler, who fired an ace in the third over in the seventh.
