“This is a huge event, it’s the biggest fight of the year,” Ryan Garcia told the assembled media during a press conference in Los Angeles Thursday promoting his April 22 bout against Gervonta Davis, who was seated nearby. Suffice it to say the youngster from California oozes confidence. “It’s a big event but I know I’m on top,” said Garcia. “Getting into the moment is one thing, and getting through the moment is another.” Unlike Davis-Garcia’s first press conference, which took place Thursday in New York, Garcia was sharper in his speech this time around, focusing on his undefeated opponent.

“You like to fight guys who don’t hit hard, but I hit hard,” Garcia told Davis directly. “You will wake up in the hospital.” Such talk might be a little surprising to those listening, but García persisted. “I see a lot of things I can pull off,” he told Davis. “You can’t do a lot of things… you’re losing to Barrios.” Davis once got up to step into Garcia’s grill. However, Garcia remained unfazed. “I’m not worried about that,” Garcia said before referring to the rehydration clause in the fight contract.
“So why is the weight draining me?” Asked. “I’ll hit him (Davis). I’ll knock him out and that’s it.” Although he had gotten to his feet and moved on to Garcia at one point, Davis seemed to center himself when he reached for the microphone himself. “He has nothing else but a hook,” Davis said of Garcia. “That’s all he has is a hook. He’s not a complete fighter.” That said, Davis decided it was his turn to address his opponent directly.
“I will drive you into deep waters and I will drown you! Oscar, Bernard and Jose Josen are going to have to pick you up.” And that’s all from me.
